HDC Announces Bill Johnson and Sandra Frankel Forum
November 24, 2007

Pedro Maneiro, Town Leader of the Henrietta Democratic Committee announced today that the committee will sponsor a forum with guest speakers William Johnson, the former Mayor of the City of Rochester, and Sandra Frankel, Brighton Town Supervisor. The forum, which is open to the public, will discuss the issues of government consolidation and suburban sprawl. The event is scheduled for Tuesday, January 22, 2008, and will be held at the Riverton Community Center, which is located at 280 Scottsville – W. Henrietta Rd. at 7:00 PM.

Mr. Maneiro stated that the Henrietta Democratic Committee invited Mr. Johnson, who is currently a Professor at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), and Ms. Frankel because both are members of the panel The Commission on Local Government Efficiency. Mr. Maneiro stated that the commission was created to increase financial efficiency through intergovernmental cooperation.

“Our primary goal in sponsoring the forum is to highlight these important issues, and learn more about how the municipalities could better serve the public and exercise more financial efficiency. The future of our metropolitan area depends on a thoughtful and thorough process of planning that will take into consideration all aspects of area development, both socially and environmentally. Hopefully, the forum will offer us the opportunity to become more familiar with the issues, and help tax payers to understand what it is they should be demanding from their government.”

Mr. Maneiro added that sprawl and government consolidation are important topics of debate because of the impact these have for both the city of Rochester and surrounding towns like Henrietta. “It is a critical issue in this time of budget restraints and the reshuffling of taxpayer money that this discussion takes place. Citizens should arm themselves with the knowledge of the issues at hand, and begin the discussion of what it is they expect from their government and town officials. These topics require a great deal of debate and difficult decision making, and they are of dire importance that these problems are resolved.”

For more information about the forum, you may call Mr. Maneiro at 359-2411or email him at

Grassroots Candidate Massa Earns Another Endorsement…

Henrietta Democratic Committee Unanimously Endorses Eric Massa for Congress

Henrietta, N.Y – This week, Congressional Candidate Eric Massa of Corning was unanimously endorsed by the Henrietta Democratic Committee.  This represents the Eighth Official Endorsement by a Monroe County Town Democratic Committee in New York’s 29th Congressional District for Massa.

"I am honored and humbled by your support tonight," said Congressional Candidate Eric Massa. "Tonight, we are sending a message to the Washington lobbyists and powerbrokers that the New York 29th is not for sale. This is what grassroots politics is all about."

"Eric Massa is a breath of fresh air," said Dr. Mary Hartshorn, a member of the Henrietta Democratic Committee. "Eric does not pander and we know where he stands on the issues."

"We have to get up and support candidates like Eric Massa," added Craig Bond, another member of the Henrietta Democratic Committee. "We need more people like Eric in office."

"This past week, Randy Kuhl issued a press release announcing how proud he was to support the Homeland Security Appropriations bill, and I applauded his position," said Candidate Massa. "I was shocked to later find out that after publicly proclaiming his support and describing all of the great things in this bill, he actually voted against it. After the President threatened a veto, Randy Kuhl immediately flip flopped, clearly he's whipped to George Bush. The families of the 29th District deserve more than just another whipped rubberstamp Congressman, they deserve a leader."

Henrietta has 20,191 registered voters, and is one of nine towns in Monroe County which makes up New York’s 29th Congressional District. Out of these nine towns, Massa now has the endorsement of the Democratic Committees of Chili, Gates, Henrietta, Mendon, Penfield, Perinton, Pittsford, and Rush. The 29th District consists of all or parts of Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chemung, Monroe, Ontario, Schuyler, Steuben, and Yates Counties.
